Potential funding for CT groups?

The DfT announced yesterday that community transport operators in England will benefit from a 60% increase in funding through the Bus Services Operators Group (BSOG).

Unfortunately, this increase only equates to about £500 a year, still leaving a large shortfall when you consider the increases to costs such as minibus maintenance and repairs.

Promisingly, the DfT also announced the £150 million funding from the pulled HS2 project will be redirected to improve buses in the North and Midlands. Our CEO, Marie, is quoted in the article by the Community Transport Association (CTA), expressing our hopes for the DfT to work with the CTA on this.

As explained in the article “This funding is a core part of CT operator’s income and helps to keep fares down and vital services running for those in our communities”. Ultimately, with sufficient funding, there will be savings generated in other areas too such as the healthcare sector – given the many benefits of our service.
